The Practice

All Fold & Flow practices follow an arc of settling in, tuning in, linking mind, body, and breath, connecting breath to movement, exploring range of motion, strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance — and letting it all soak in.

All are welcome regardless of experience
or ability. The Dance Hall studio is up a
flight of stairs; there is no elevator.

My main rule is to remember that everything I say is a suggestion, and your main responsibility is to ask yourself whether each suggestion feels like a good idea to you on that day.

While we will explore some moderate challenges to strength, flexibility, and balance, the real practice I hope to share and develop with you is that of paying attention to, and taking care of, yourself.

CENTERING Fold & Flow begins in stillness, with a 10–15 minute guided non-sleep deep rest to calm the body and mind and downregulate the nervous system. From there, we keep movement low and slow, with opportunities to safely explore range of motion and apply “good stress” to connective tissue.

MODERATE Fold & Flow includes a higher proportion of movement than Centering, while still moving slowly and mindfully. We explore stability, strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance.

DYNAMIC Fold & Flow offers further opportunity for movement and challenge, while using stillness to deepen the experience.

How It Works

Cost

Single drop-in session: $18
Six-session pass (to be used within 12 weeks): $98
One month unlimited: $70

Payments receivable by cash, check, credit card onsite, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

A portion of proceeds benefits Bluemont Heritage, the 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the restoration and revival of the E. E. Lake Store and other historic structures in Bluemont.

Parking

There are two spots at the Lake Store (18351 Railroad Street, Bluemont VA, 20135). A few more spaces are available on Railroad Street—they are on the left as you pass the store, so it is necessary to turn around and park facing Snickersville Turnpike. More short-term parking is available at the Post Office across the street on Snickersville. After 5 pm, it's okay to park in Reiss Mobile Vet's lot in front of the building.

Once you’re here: Our studio is accessible through the “Dance Hall” door to the right of the double main doors. The Dance Hall is up a flight of stairs; there is no elevator.

What to Do Now

There is no need to register in advance, but feel free to contact me and let me know you are coming!

Please bring a mat, water, and anything else you need to feel comfortable. Props are not a necessary part of the practice, but you are welcome to bring your own. A few spare mats will always be available. Any comfortable clothing is appropriate. Please arrive 5–10 minutes before start time to get checked in and settled.

While the building has been renovated and is a pretty magical space, please note that it still has some rustic elements. Modern bathrooms are available in the downstairs visitor center, but there is no potable water. I have cleaned and tested out the beautiful patinated wooden floors with my own bare feet, but for now I am recommending sandals, slippers, or light indoor shoes to travel with you to your mat. I will provide groundcloths on the floor to be extra safe.

Zoom

My Zoom community joins us in the Dance Hall. I send a link shortly before practice and ask that Zoom participants log in 5 minutes early so we can assure a timely start. If you are interested in participating virtually, please let me know and I will share those details with you.
